Be kind to your body – it’s the only one you’ve got!!

It seems like a rhetorical comment, but how often do you tell yourself to unwind and relax, and then actually do it?

Many people associate unwinding and relaxing with a putting their feet up in front of the TV. However, there are better ways to unwind and relax… a massage for instance or even better, regular massages. Massages work on so many different levels. I often have clients that come in for a massage because their back, shoulders or neck hurts. However, before it even comes to that, many things have already taken place and will need to be considered.

You might find that you have had a bad postural habit for years, and you couple this together with general wear and tear and that you knock yourself around a bit. It’s easy to see why the body can feel the way it does.

Think about it…..how often have you bumped your shoulder, lifted heavy things, slept in an awkward position, got stressed at work, had the baby on your hip, lifted that baby out of the cot and realised its weight had increased significantly over night, knocked your head on the overhead cupboard door that someone left open……simple daily tasks?? Of course your body takes it all and you forget about it. Then one morning you wake up and you can’t turn your neck!!

We expect our body to work perfectly all the time and only when it doesn’t, are we compelled to do something. Some people take painkillers and get on with it, whereas others ignore it altogether … unfortunately that only suppresses the signals that your body is giving you.

Listen to your body! Try to feel into the pain and get an idea of its quality. Is it sharp or dull, shooting or burning, localized or broad? Is it worse in the morning or at night? Is there a difference depending on the weather, cold or hot, dry or humid? The more you know about your pain and your body the better for you, and a health professional can deal easier with the problems.

Think of massage as an unwinding tool. It’s almost like working backwards smoothing and unwinding all those little things that have accumulated over the years. Of course I’m not only talking about the things on a body level. Massage can help with emotional challenges as well. When you are stressed for whatever reason, the body will also react to these stresses. Your muscles tense, stress hormones are released, your body is in a flight or fight state.

Massage not only addresses the pain but also your stress and emotional upheaval. As I always say: ’Relax your body and free your soul’.

You have probably seen the ads on TV about the product that combats the ‘Seven Signs of Ageing’. Have you ever wondered what they are, why they are there and what to do about them, apart from buying that product of course?

Here is what to look for:

Fine lines and wrinkles

Rough skin texture

Uneven Skin Tone

Dull looking skin

Visible pores

Blotches and age spots

Dry Skin

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Apart from using the right skin care for your needs, – more about this later – it is most important to drink enough water. The skin in your face (and neck and décolletage) is very thin compared to the body’s skin, it is exposed to the elements all the time. If you allow yourself to de-hydrate, the body will preserve the vital organs first. The skin and your thoughts on ageing are not on top of the list.

Once you are fully hydrated, and staying that way, you can look at establishing good skin care habits. Remember, your skin wants to regenerate at night. Therefore prepare it for exactly that. Take your make-up off as well as dust and sweat from the day with a gentle cleanser.

We work with heritagehealers skincare and recommend one of the heritagehealers cleansers. For dry and mature skin use the balancing cleanser and for oily skin use the tantra cleansing foam. Then apply your serums, such as the bio-peptide serum, essential eye cream and the right night cream for your skin type.

As we are having a change of season happening right now, you might find that in the cooler weather you need to use a more nourishing night cream and daily moisturizer.

So, if you have been using the meridian moisturizing cream during the warmer months, try the chakra nourishing cream at night.

Your morning routine can be very simple by placing the cleanser into the shower, and then just apply the serums, essential eye cream and your moisturizer.

Exfoliation is the key

Take it up a notch, and exfoliate once or twice a week depending on your skin type. The wattle husk peel is very gentle, suitable even for sensitive skin. Then apply the revitaliser mask for a deep hydration.

In so many ways prevention is better than cure or repair. Stick with your routine, be nice to your body and get regular facials. You will notice a difference.

What about repair? As you can imagine, we don’t recommend skin dermabrasion, surgery or botox. Yet, even if you keep it completely natural, there is hope! With a personalized skin boot program you can achieve results your friends will notice and feel envious about.

Get a natural facelift

A combination of our oxygen facials, grape vine peels and collagen masks work as a natural face lift.

Get in touch with Vickie, our beauty and skin care specialist, and ask all the questions you may have.

Book your free skin consultation (valued at $45) with Vickie today, call 9887 2800!

heritagehealers skincare range is available at Face Body Wellness!

In learned helplessness that is. Many people suffer from this phenomenon. They think they are incapable of achieving success or improving their lives. Often they use an “I can’t” statement and then go on to list all the reasons why it is not possible for them. The good news is that it is learned helplessness and what has been learned can be unlearned.

Based on Fear and Doubt

Learned helplessness is based on two major negative emotions: fear and doubt. This can include fear of failure, of embarrassment, of loss, of not having enough money etc.; the list goes on. Doubt is the other popular emotion; and after comparing ourselves unfavourably with others, culminates in the belief: “I’m not good enough”.

Practise, practise, practise

Please keep in mind that – in case you have those negative emotions – you have learned and practised them over a number of years. This means that you will need to put some effort and practise into unlearning them. Courage and confidence are the positive emotions that need to be repeated and practised. Set yourself baby-step goals. Choose something that you can achieve; and then celebrate your success.

Celebration Journal

A celebration journal works very well to keep track of the small successes. You will be surprised how quickly they become bigger and bigger. If you tend to set yourself goals that are too big, think about it like a ladder. Divide each goal by rungs of a ladder.

What is the first step to achieve your goal? What is the next step, and so on? Make sure to use positive self-talk to encourage yourself. Negative self-talk is counterproductive. Let’s say you have set yourself a goal; and it was too big. So, you didn’t achieve it at the first go. Instead of beating yourself up and telling yourself negative things; ask “how can I break this goal down, so that I can achieve it?”

Feel confident

Keep tracking your successes in your celebration journal. In case “doubt” or “fear” is coming up, read about your success and feel confident and in control of your live.

If you are carrying an old, limiting belief around, it can become a burden that slows you down.

Let’s say, for example, a person has this old, but empowering belief from childhood that they can have a fit healthy body regardless of their age, and another person believes that they can’t have that. That person has a limiting belief. Chances are the first person will lead a completely different life to that of the second person.

Looking at this from a conscious adult mind, it seems you should be able to shake that old, limiting belief off. Well, it is sometimes not that easy. Old beliefs are usually anchored deeply into your unconscious mind.

You might ask, how is this possible? Doesn’t the conscious mind determine what we believe? That’s right, we like to think that the conscious mind is the boss. However, the conscious mind takes up only 5 percent of our mind, whereas the unconscious mind takes up the other 95 percent.

Think about it this way; all learning is unconscious. If you needed to consciously think about how to walk or tell your brain which muscles to move, you would go crazy or at least not get anywhere. When you first started to drive, you had to think a lot about every action required. Now, you drive somewhere automatically and not remember the individual actions. That is your unconscious mind, or your body wisdom at work, and effectively protecting you from danger. Impressive!

The unconscious mind is far more prominent in our lives than we like to think. The question is; how can we change an old, limiting belief that is anchored in our unconscious mind?

Sure, you could work with affirmations, or you could consciously think a lot about an old belief and how it is no longer true.

Would that change the old belief? Possibly, and only to a certain extent. However, if you use a technique called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), you have an excellent chance to deeply change for the better at an unconscious level.

What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a system of effective and easy techniques to align the conscious with the unconscious and body mind.

Neuro stands for the nervous system as we take in everything around us through our senses to create neurological pathways. This component of NLP is about how the body and mind neurology can work together to direct us to better outcomes.

The second component of NLP, Linguistic, looks at the way we communicate with ourselves and others. This includes pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells and our internal dialogue. NLP uses language to guide the mind towards a positive change.

The third component of NLP is Programming. Specific tools and techniques are used to “re-program” the mind to achieve a higher performance.

Using a NLP technique to change old, limiting beliefs, is much more effective than affirmations.
What do you think, a person could achieve if they changed an old, limiting belief like the one mentioned before to a better one?

For instance, if you believe you are doomed to be unhealthy, you can change it to a better belief that you can have a fit, healthy body. This would surely lead you to a different behaviour regarding your health, and you would make some life-style changes, that would be easier with the new belief anchored in your unconscious mind.

In time your health will improve, confirming this new belief. It is possible to move from a negative spiral into a positive one.
